The Short Version

Crab is a desktop application that runs entirely on your machine. Your crawl data never leaves your computer. We don't collect, store, or transmit any data from your crawls.

The Desktop Application

Crab runs 100% locally. When you crawl a website using Crab, all data is processed and stored on your machine. No crawl data, audit results, or website information is sent to our servers or any third party. We have no access to your crawl data, and we never will.

The desktop application uses PostHog for anonymous product analytics to help us understand how the application is used (e.g., which features are popular). This data is processed in PostHog's US data center. No crawl data, website content, or personally identifiable information is included in these analytics — only anonymous usage events such as page views within the app.

The Website (crab.so)

Our website is separate from the desktop application. When you visit crab.so, we use the following services:

  • Umami Analytics — a privacy-focused analytics tool that collects anonymous usage data (page views, referrers, browser type). No cookies are used, and no personal data is collected.
  • Google Tag Manager — used to manage website tags. This may set cookies in your browser.

Information We Don't Collect

  • We don't collect personal information or crawl data from the desktop application.
  • We don't require account creation or login.
  • We don't track which websites you crawl.
  • We don't sell, share, or monetize any data.

Downloads

When you download Crab, the download is served via GitHub Releases. GitHub may log standard request data (IP address, browser info) according to their own privacy policy. We don't have access to individual download logs.

Open Source

Crab is open source. You can inspect the source code on GitHub to verify that no data is collected or transmitted by the application.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
